Strange behaviour!

In the last week Freya's become very interested in the mirror.

I've heard of cats walking past a mirror and hissing at the cat in the mirror, but this seems different!

She seems completely uninterested in the cat in the mirror, but more strangely, seems very interested in other things around the room, especially US!

She'll walk up to the mirror, and look into it, and then start yowling as she looks at us, and you can see in the pics that she's looking straight at us.

It must be a bit puzzling for her, seeing us in front of her, AND behind her also!

Happy purrthday to meeee!!

It's my purrthday! I'm 6 years old today, and been with my mommacat and daddycat for exactly 1 year now!

You can read my exciting story about how I came to be adopted here!

From my mommacat, I got a crinkly bag, that magically refills with treats whenever I look away, and it's so beautifully covered, it looks exactly like my own colouring!

From my daddycat, I got a back scratching glove which feels lovely when I'm stroked with it.

And then finally, I got a big cuddle too.

For my birthday breakfast, they bought me the most expensive stinky goodness they could find, and I loved it! Do you know, it's more expensive than hoomin food!

This food is just SOOOO delicious, I hope they don't think I'm going to eat normal cat fud tomorrow!

And as an extra special treat for my birthday, I even GOT MY PICTURE IN THE KITTY CITY GAZETTE!!!! I'm so proud!!

Famous Freya?

Last night, I was happily minding my own business, jumping for joy, about having such a lovely mommacat and daddycat, and that flashing thing went off again and blinded me.

If I wasn't embarrassed enough by being caught in a moment of blissful "private time", Can you imagine what Daddycat's done? He's submitted it to I can has cheesburger.com so that everyone in the world will see me and laugh! (click the picture to vote for it as your favourite picture in all the world!)

Fast as Lightning!

Hi Everybody - It's me Freya!

I'm fed up of daddycat talking for me, and making fun of my fancycats and making poor Hunky Harley embarassed!

(Hi Hunky Harley! )

Anyway, the other day, I was defending my family from this glittery thing, while mommacat kept taking pictures of me! How can I pose in all my beauty for her, while theres a glittery thing flying around that needs to be taken care of?

Anyway, here are mommacat's photos, and actually I'm such a speedycat, I'm all fuzzy! Daddycat says he'll try it next time with a faster "shutup speed" but I've no idea what that is? I won't be as fast as me anyway!

By the way, you can click my pictures to biggify them too!

Do you know, I'm so fast, that sometimes I've turned round, and my bum doesn't know I've turned?

Don't I get into some funny positions?

Freya has a crush!

I think Freya has a crush!!!

I noticed today that she wasn't around, and went looking to see where she'd got to, and as I got to my office, I caught her looking at a certain sexy mancat's website!!!

It's Harley!!! Freya has a crush on Harley, Daisy's brother!!

Of course, as soon as she got busted, she denied it, and got all bashful, but I have a suspicion now...

Mommacat's home!!!

But little Freya still knows who's got the most comfy arm to snuggle and sleep in!

Unortunately, I don't get a lot of work done when she's like this, but it's worth it!!

Mean old daddycat!

I was feeling a bit lonely in the office, 'cos as son as i went in there, Freya would jump to the top shelf, and get in her secret hiding place and go to sleep for the rest of the day.

I felt this was fairly unsociable, so I took away her comfy bed, hoping that the next best thing would be my lap, or the nice plush chair next to me.

Freya had a better idea.

She laid down in the next box and went to sleep just to spite me for beng so mean.
"I'm ok daddycat, don't mind me, I'll sleep here, it's totally every bit as comfortable as my usual bed." She said.
And it looks it, doesn't it?

Well, she wins again, I can't let her sleep like that, so I put her box back, and a few minutes later, guess what happened?

Yes, that looks a lot better doesn't it?

So again, I was outsmarted by Freya, and she didn't hiss, bite or scratch me once, and still totally got her own way.
If only she could run a business, but I guess she's too smart for that!!

What's on TV?

Whats on TV???

Freya's on TV!!!!
In fact, this picture probably poses more questions than it answers.
  1. What on earth is being shown on the TV?
  2. Why is there money hanging from the side of my TV?
  3. Why does Freya look like she's put on a few stone?
Commenters get to find out the answers!

NOTE: Freya is fully aware that this Wordless Wednesday post is anything but wordless, but she's never been one for obedience or rules.

The dreaded scabby-nose!

Oh no!

Freya has big lumps of something on her nose!!! Is this the dreaded Bengal scabbie-nose fever she's contracted?

Or is it just some lumps of salmon from this morning that she hasn't cleaned off, the dirty little minx!

walter and his cat, 1995

walter and his cat, 1995
Originally uploaded by keldemean
I just saw this picture on flickr, and such a range of emotions hit me, I just had to write about it.

Initially, when you see the picture, you think 'funny-looking guy with a cat on his lap', and of course, the cat's expression is priceless.

When you actually read the author's writeup, you think a little differently. (click on the picture for the full story)

This guy is all of us, back in a day when we weren't so cynical, and 'cool'. Walter is full of love, and innocence. He's just happy in himself, and not worried what you may think about him.

And all of a sudden, instead of laughing at the guy, I'm kinda wishing I could be more like him.

While Mommacat's away

Mommacat's been away for the last week, so Freya and I have been bonding.

We recently had delivery of Da bird, and true to form, she LOVES IT! Unfortunately, it seems that I'm allergic to feather-based cat toys. Luckily, I bought the 4-pack of Dabird extras, and in there is a glittery sorta thing that she loves just as much as the spinning feather, although it's not as impressive to me.
Da glittery thing

I simply have no idea what she's doing here! But her front legs look like a munchkin's!

This is just a weird position to have her back legs in!

OK Freya, I'll stop making fun of you... maybe... for a day or two anyway..

Just look at that belly? Isn't it just the most snuggly belly in the world???

This is a close-up of her face. I've no idea when she puts on her mascara, but it's always finished by the time I wake up!

A terribly sad day

One year ago today, my first cat, Scampie died from kidney/renal failure. She was 14 years old, and a much loved member of my family.

It all started about 2 weeks earlier, when we noticed she was vomiting fairly regularly, so we took her to the vet.

He thought it sounded a little like kidney issues so ordered a blood test and put her on a drip, as she was so dehydrated from vomiting. I was surprisingly strong at this news, as I had it set in my mind that it wasn't a big deal, she could just eat special food, and live a happy life for many years to come.

She continued to vomit, and then go for a drip at the vets, and after the drip, she'd be ok for a day or two...

I remember on valentines day, we went for a meal, and Anna gave me a card that had a black cat on it that looked a little like Scampie, and I actually started crying in the restaurant! Maybe it was at that point that I started to realise / believe that things might be a little serious?

Although she would eat, she would vomit it up afterwards, and probably as a result of all the vomiting, went a little off her food, and the vet said that any food or water we could get into her was a good thing, so I went out and bought a load of frozen cod steaks, as she loved them for a treat.

We would boil them up, and virtually hand feed them to her, but it would become harder and harder to get her to eat. The vet would put her on a drip to get some fluids in her as she was quite dehydrated after all the vomiting, and she'd be full of beans again, and actually sometimes keep some food down, much to our rejoicing.

But after a day or so, our hearts would hit the floor again as we heard her start vomiting again, and things were looking desperately bleak.

We kinda realised that this was it, and the only hope was that she would go on a drip every other day, and being a feisty cat, that just wasn't going to be possible, and also, we didnt' think that it would be a quality life either.

We called the vet, and made an appointment for him to make the final visit, but it was a Friday, and he couldn't make it till Tuesday, so for the next 3 days we just kept her warm in blankets and towels, and hot water bottles, and fed her tiny scraps of cod if she felt like it.

I don't mind telling you, that to cry every day for a week is a real emotional strain, and once the vet had been and gone, it was certainly a relief! I realised, I wasn't upset because she was going to die, I was upset that she wasn't well, and once she actually passed, I felt more at peace.

I still can't look at the frozen cod steaks in the supermarket without getting a lump in my throat!

One month later exactly, Freya moved in, and I've been happy again. But not a week goes by where I don't think of little Scampie a few times.

Scampie was quite a big cat, but really faded away towards the end!

Happpier times...

We miss you Scampie!

Have you seen this cat?

This is a really old internet meme, but rather than just post the picture here, I thought I would recreate it myself, and see if any of my neighbours noticed it.

The original shows some dumb wild Pallas cat, :-) but Freya and I both agree that Freya's more awesome than some zoo wildie!

I'll let you know if any of my neighbours notice or mention it...

Have you seen this cat? Because it's awesome!

Freya's been doing very well at cuteness school this week.

She's certainly been scoring A+ with me anyway!

Unfortunately for you readers, I got a new camera last week, so the gratuitous picture quota is going to be on the up for a while, till the novelty wears off!

Guess what I discovered in my bed this morning when I walked in?
I don't really want to be encouraging her to get under the covers, just in case I sit on the bed and squish her, but how can you resist something so sweet as she slowly emerges, all bleary eyed and sleepy?? I'm glad I had my camera to hand!
